Start with the melody! Think about the syllables of the lyrics when playing along with the arrangement. When you can play the melody in time, check out a lick. Most of the licks here add in a basic Bum-Ditty or double thumb pattern to the melody. There's also some drop thumb licks if you are up for a challenge. Starting with an easy melody then working on tougher licks one measure at a time is a great way to practice.
