Deep River Blues for guitar is usually in the key of E. There's only 4 chords in the song most of the time. However, there is often multiple chord shapes used for each chord. This can make things a bit overwhelming. In this étude you'll learn to use the same guitar chord shape for each chord in this progression.

The shape we are using is a Dominant 7th Chord shape. This is a typical blues chord. In the blues you can usually play this anytime you see a major chord being used. Notice the shape is not changing as the chord shape moves around the neck. Only the bass note is changed to match the root of the chord being played.

There is one diminished chord in this tune, and luckily enough, the "top part" of the 7th chord can work for the diminished chord and melody.
