Blackberry Blossom is a common jam tune that all guitar players should eventually learn. It can be quite intimidating because of the typically complex melody and way a lot of players pick this one. Instead of playing the usual complex scale patterns, arpeggios and hot bluegrass licks, the melody can be distilled to scale runs that move only as the chords change. This way, you hit the important notes of the tune. Add in a simple "bum-ditty" picking pattern and voila! We have a great sounding lead break that also teaches an important point: you don't have to be overly complex to sound good.

Something simple will get the job done, and it will also be much easier to play at high speeds. It also helps you to better understand the underlying scale movement and serves a more of a black slate to add in licks and create variations. Simple is solid. Simple is strong. Simple is good. After you get the basics version down, you can check out some variations in the lick switcher.

If you want to accelerate your progress, then practice some scales! Check out the G Major Scales in the song list. Practice them before working on this tune as a warmup and try to memorize the scales.
