This version of John Hardy is closely based on the note choice and phrasing of Tony Rice...the singing of Tony Rice that is! No matter what instrument you play, you should try and learn how to sing something before you play it. Playing like a singer will make your instrumental playing more fluid. If you play the same notes and rhythms that a bluegrass singer uses, you better believe it's going to sound authentic. Oh, there is also some cross-picking thrown in, because hey, that's cool too.
