Practice this 3 shape double stop workout to familiarize your self with the common 2 note chord shapes that are frequently used when playing bluegrass banjo in G tuning and in the key of G.


G, C, and D are the "principal" chords in the key of G. They are the 3 major chords that are able to be formed when using notes from the G major scale. They are based on the 1st, 4th and 5th scale tones. That's why a song using these chords may be referred to as having a " 1, 4, 5" song progression. Even though these chords may appear in different order in some songs, that song would still be called a "1, 4, 5".


Follow the suggested fingerings in the banjo tablature. When changing between double stop shapes, try to keep fingers in contact with or close to the strings as much as possible.
