Diatonic means "of the scale". The triads in this exercise are all formed using notes of the G major scale.
Follow the fingering suggestions listed in the banjo tablature. Listen as you play each triad. Don't be in a rush to get to the next triad. Stop. Smell the roses. Listen. Read. Notice the same shapes being used for minor or major triads! These are the 2nd inversion banjo chord shapes. The root note for each chord is on the the 2nd string. There's only one note different between major and minor shapes, and only one note different between minor and diminished. Those small differences in shape make a huge difference in sound!
