This backup version focuses on the chord shape you probably know as the C shape. With this shape, the root note of the chord is on the B string. The chords are simple, but the timing is not. Notice how many chords come in at the end of a measure, or just before the halfway mark of a measure. This is a type of syncopation. Playing on the offbeat is common in bluegrass, but having chord changes on the offbeat is much more common in Soul or R & B tunes such as this one.
