This basic Scruggs style version of Rider for the banjo uses repeating roll patterns mixed in with the melody to provide a solid arrangement that sounds great and isn't too tough to play. In the A section, the melody is mostly on the first string. There you'll uses a short forward roll in between melody notes. In the B section the melody is on the G string(3rd string). To avoid awkward finger changes in the roll pattern you'll go to a simple alternating roll. In this instance it is much easier to play. For the Bb chord you are playing a piece of a B suspended chord. It sounds great and makes for an easier transition to the F chord shape you'll use here.
Remember to practice listening just like you did with the melody. Listen with Tunefox and to the Apple Music or Spotify links. In the world of bluegrass, this song has become synonymous with the Seldom Scene. Definitely listen to their version for inspiration. The banjo is much more complex there, but the chordal movement is the same. Try to pick that out when listening.
