We've got rolls! Notice how they've been added to fill the space in the melody. This is kind of the essence of Scruggs and 3 finger style banjo playing. It definitely gets more complex, but this is the big first step. As you can see it's mostly forward rolls we're using. There's also the fill in notes in measures 4 & 8 and the ending lick in measure 9. The tough one here is measure 6. This one is a very typical Scruggs style lick that incorporates rolls and fret hand embellishment. Use the focus feature to practice it repeatedly, until it's easy, at a speed you can handle.

The licks here are more authentic Scruggs style vocabulary. Check one or two out to up your game and help you get more familiar with what is in store in the Scruggs Style 2 arrangement.
