This melody for Cotton Eyed Joe is a simplified. It's based on the way the tune is played in some old-time and Bluegrass circles. Try using hide notes to learn by ear. Listen many times to help memorize the sound of this melody. After practicing playing the individual melody notes work on some basic chord changes. These are listed above the tablature. At first just strum at the beginning of the measure and when a chord changes happen. If you can do that, then try a basic "bum-ditty" strum. The Lyrics are listed beneath the banjo tablature. There is not a note for every syllable. Doing that would make this complex and hard to play for beginners and a lot of intermediate players. This is a simplified version. It's meant to just show the "skeleton" of the melody - the truly important notes.
