This is one of Bill Monroe's most famous numbers. The down-stroke is a powerful tool here. Play boldly. Make the melody strong. Pick through the string and have it come to rest on the string below. This is called a rest stroke. It's a way to get great tone and power when you are not having to do fast alternate(up and down) picking.
