The mandolin version of "Frosty Morning" is based on the Appalachian dulcimer playing of David Schnaufer. It comes from a duet album he made with the legendary mandolin player Butch Baldassari. Throughout we are using a "dotted rhythm" it's a great way to bring in that dancing feeling and get a sense of movement going. You can clearly see and hear the rhythm in measures 1 & 8. Where are some other spots you notice it at?

Measure 10 might be tough. If you are not used to using your pinky then you'll need some practice. You could also play this in "second position" check out the licks to see an example of the alternate fingering you can use for measures 9 & 10. You can also sub it out for one of the pentatonic licks. Licks can be great fun, but when playing traditional music we don't want to "lose" the melody of the tune.
