Learn "I Am the Man, Thomas" for the banjo using index led forward rolls. These are just forward rolls that start with the index finger. Continuous forward rolls, leading with the index, and playing the melody with the index are some of the hallmarks of the Ralph Stanley's style of banjo playing. It's a slight departure from the Scruggs style, which will often make more use of the thumb in the rolls and melody playing. Ralph favored the index finger, this may in some part be due to the fact he was also a clawhammer banjo player.
This version uses the same forward roll pattern throughout. This will make it accessible, and also demonstrate how the same roll pattern can be used on different sets of strings.
