This version of Wildwood Flower is based on the playing of Keith Whitley. Specifically it's based on his playing from the "Second Generation" album that he made as a young man with Ricky Skaggs and other prominent bluegrass musicians. Keith was known mostly as a singer, but as it turns out he was also quite an incredible guitar player even at a young age.

Keith combined several guitar picking styles to create his own unique take. There are elements of Carter style, Shuffler, and other elements of standard bluegrass guitar picking. Listen to the original version regularly as part of practice. Listen with the Tunefox player as well. It will help boost your memory and musicality if you make it a habit to listen as much as you play.

Pay very close attention to the fingerings and pick direction markings in the guitar tablature. Also, Keith and Ricky picked this in the key of G and Keith achieved that by placing the capo at the 7th fret and playing out of C shapes. You don't need to capo at the 7th fret to play this unless you are jamming with others that are playing in the key of G. Still, you might want to try it to hear how unique and pretty the sound is!
