Potatoes AKA "taters" Are a classic way to start a tune. You play them before the first measure and it lets everyone know who fast you'll be playing. This is a short, one measure kickoff. Here, we are using an a forward roll and pinches. You can slide in from the 4th fret as written. If you slide in from the 3rd fret, you'll get a more bluesy sound.
