This melody for "Angel Band" is based on the way Lester Flatt sang this tune on a recording for Flatt & Scruggs. Bluegrass is closely connected to folk music. Like many folk tunes, not everyone sings or plays the same song in the same way. Listen, and learn this one and then compare it to the other melody version of this tune that's based on the way Doyle Lawson sang it. There is no right or wrong here. Just different takes on the same tune. Notice a lot of the "big" important notes are the same, as are the chord changes.
Check out the banjo tablature. Notice the lyrics are just beneath the notes. Even if you don't plan on singing this it is incredibly helpful and beneficial if you learn some of the words and connect it to the sound and rhythm of the notes by singing or speaking them as you play.
