Sammy Shelor plays a lot of tunes out of Double C or Sawmill tuning. Those tunings are a lot more common with old-time and clawhammer players, but they can work great on "modal" tunes and tunes banjo players would usually play out of C shapes - basically any time we have tunes where we don't play the open B string a lot. Sammy's uses of pinches is one of the many cool and unique aspects of his playing. He also has incredible groove and timing and always seems to twist common Scruggs phrases in a very interesting way. Pay close attention to the banjo tab to use the suggested fingerings.
There are a lot of Shelor style licks you can check out in this arrangement as well.
