This version of Cripple Creek is built on the basic melody and incudes a few pinches and partial forward rolls in the banjo tab. The licks start simple. The "#2" licks are just a little tougher than the original, and "#3" licks are just a little tougher than that. Going through the different licks will really help you get perspective on how these complex sounding banjo tunes get built up from a simple melody. If you can play through this tune with all of the #3 licks you'll be just about ready to tackle the Earl Scruggs Signature arrangement and start playing like the man himself. Remember to work a measure at a time if you need to.
