This is a transcription of Earl's 3rd break from the "Foggy Mountain Jamboree" album. This one features that great, one-note, way up the neck lick again. Only this time, it comes before the band moves to the C chord. Earl really wows the listener by bringing in the unexpected. The cool lick you heard in the 1st half of break one comes early, and then he brings in something the listener hasn't heard in the tune yet - a series of oh-so-cool bends! If you listen to the original recording, you can hear his tone changes drastically at that moment. That's because he is changing the point of attack for his picking hand. He moves the picks closer to the neck to get a much throatier tone. He's always keeping things fresh and interesting, whether it's rhythm, note choice, or tone.
