Learn an Authentic Scruggs Style version of Groundspeed for the banjo. This is a transcription of Earl's playing. It's based on his performance that was featured on the Foggy Mountain banjo album.

There is some tricky maneuvers for the fret hand and for the pick hand. Follow those suggested fingerings in the banjo tablature to keep your fingers from getting twisted into knots! If you want to explore some variations the licks feature some great ideas in melodic and Scruggs styles. So you can add some unique embellishments or get a more modern sound by blending traditional Scruggs style with melodic runs.

What does that little "x" above the tablature mean? Play that note as a "dead" or "ghost" note. Don't fret it all the way. Just let your finger lightly touch the string. When you pluck the string with your pick hand, you'll just hear a percussive "click" sound. Earl would slide out of that high position a little early, just after picking the 8th fret b string. So really, when you pick that ghost note on the first string, you should be halfway through your slide that helps you shift position down to the lower frets.
