For this melodic banjo version of "Over the Waterfall" you'll need to 'spike' or capo your 5th string at the 7th fret. You could also retune your 5th string up to an A note. If you don't know what spike or capo means then check out our learning path for Capo Use.
This one requires a large fret-hand stretch. You'll see it first in measure 2. Try to avoid a big bend in your wrist. Try to relax your elbow into your side, keep your thumb behind the neck, place your pinky down first, then your second finger and extend the index back on it's side slightly. If you can't achieve the stretch without bending your wrist, move to a different song and don't come back to this one until developing your fret hand posture.
A slide is used in measure 12. At that point we are running out of low notes on the banjo. So since melodic style can't be done at that point we opt for a slide. Single string is another option and you can check that out in the licks
