Four V7 licks in the key of C [Guitar]

Did you know that a V to I cadence is the most popular chord movement in all of bluegrass music? This particular cadence is all about tension and release because in any key the V chord consists of notes that create a magnetic pull towards the I chord.

In a bluegrass song, it's super valuable to be able to manipulate this chord change. Learning different approaches, such as the ones in this example will start you off in seeing and hearing variations for this movement which, with practice, will lead to a better understanding of improvisation.

In this example, you’ll learn four different V chord licks that will lead you to the I chord. In this case, we’ll be working out of the key of C, so your V chord will be a G chord. For a little extra spice, we’re making the V chord a 7th chord.

Our of these 4 licks, which one is your favorite? Let us know in the comments!

I also like Bluegrass #3, but they all sound good.

All sound great - if I had to pick one I'd go with bluegrass #3. I love the bluesy sound.
