A Minor Guitar Tablature: One Song, Many Styles
Recomended level: Beginner
Learn the basic A minor scale on the guitar. The A minor scale is closely related to the C major scale they share all the same notes but merely have different start and end points. The A minor scale notes are: A B C D E F G. The C major scale notes are: C D E F G A B. They are musical relatives. C major is known as the "relative major" for the key of A minor because of all the notes they share.
You will learn to play the scales ascending, which means going from low notes to high, and descending, which means going high to low. Follow the suggested fingerings in the guitar tablatures. Start with the basic minor scale. You will learn a full A minor scale and also a few partial scales. Try to hold down the fretted notes as long as possible. This will build strength, coordination, and help you get a smoother and cleaner sound.
After getting a hang of the fret hand fingerings for the basic scales you can then try out the basic workouts. These incorporate alternate picking. Take these very slowly at first. Don't sacrifice accuracy for speed.
