Beaumont Rag is a wonderful instrumental that was made popular on guitar by the incomparable Doc Watson. There are several different arrangements here to explore. Each include extra licks for even more variation. You also have the difficulty and vary sliders which will allow you to tailor each arrangement to your skill level, taste, and preference.

All players will benefit from exploring the Basic version. It's accessible for beginners which is great. Seasoned players will be able to easily see the arpeggios, scale patterns and rhythms that are being used. Understanding that framework is ve.ry beneficial for improvisation and crafting your own version of a tune. Most people play this in C shape with a capo at the second fret like Doc did. If you are just playing by yourself you can learn, play and practice without a capo, and you'd only really need one on if another instrumentalist wants to play the tune in the key of D. The Advanced and Bluegrass versions are both played out of "C position".

If you are feeling adventurous try out the No Capo version. As the name implies, no capo will be used and you'll play this in the actual key of D. Removing the capo opens up a lot of new note options and sonic possibilities. Each arrangement has some playing and practice advice in the descriptions. There's also fingerings and pick direction markings and fingering suggestions in the guitar tablature. Keep an eye out for those, and keep an ear out for anything you play. Practice listening. Just as repeated playing will help you memorize how to play a tune, repeated listening will help you develop your ears and memorize the sound of the song you are learning. That's very important.

Most melodies are directly out of scales. It's important to know and learn those. It will make playing and learning easier. It will help get your hands in shape. Check out our learning path for Guitar Scales & Exercises. The C major, D major and pentatonic scales will really help you on this tune. Try to memorize them and practice them regularly.
