Recomended level: Intermediate
Learn to play the G major scale in 7th position on the guitar. 7th position means your first finger gets the notes on those frets. Read through the guitar tablature for the suggested fret hand fingerings. This position uses what some people refer to as the "C" shape.
Here you can learn the full G major scale which has 7 notes - G A B C D E F#. "Joy to the World" is a song that uses a descending major scale. Think through that melody if you are familiar with it, then try to play a descending G major scale that matches the timing of that melody for "Joy to the World, the Lord has come". If you don't know the song you should listen to it a few times to learn what it's supposed to sound like. Then you can try playing that first phrase mentioned earlier.
At first practice the scale one note at a time. Focus on playing clear notes that ring out. Don't start working with the Tunefox player until you get comfortable playing all notes cleanly. When you begin to add the timing component start by using all down strokes with your pick. Once that becomes familiar you can also try to play this with alternate picking - DUDUDUDU.
