Most of the Scruggs style banjo language is "spoken" within the first 5 frets. However up-the-neck playing is not uncommon and is full of interest and intrigue. It is often much more difficult. This version has been simplified. You'll use one repeating roll pattern: the backwards roll. This roll works great when the melody note is on the first string, especially when you start the roll there. Another important part of up the neck playin are the partial chords used. It's often just two note chords on the first and second strings.

Notice the accent markers: ">". These mean you should play that note slightly louder than others. Right now the accents are only above the first note in each roll. These are also the important melody notes. Accenting these will create a strong rhythmic feel and bring the melody notes out of all the rolls.

The licks will show you some more authentic Scruggs style banjo vocabulary.
