This version of Dooley is a lot of fun and not too tough to play. Take a look at the banjo tablature and listen through before you pickup your instrument to play. You'll notice there's not a lot of challenge. There's no hammer-ons, pull-offs or slides. This makes it much more accessible to most players. The melody is strongly featured here with a few "fill-ins", rolls and pinches. It will make much more sense to your ears if you have the melody memorized. Learning and mastering some basic rolling backup will also help you pick this up a bit quicker.

If you want to make this one a bit more fancy, check out the licks. There's some simple variations that use different roll patterns. If you are up for a bit of challenge, try out some of those authentic Scruggs style licks.

For the most part, banjo solos are usually played over the verse melody and chord progression. Sometimes that is not the case. Either way, it's fun to learn a "banjo" version of a whole song you like. That's exactly what's going on here.

Remember to use your Tunefox tools. Practice listening before picking up your instrument. After you get familiar with where the notes are on the fingerboard try playing in time with the Tunefox player. Aim for slow and smooth playing. Use the tempo slider to adjust to your current level. The focus feature is also an indispensable learning tool. Learning a measure at a time makes things manageable.
