Banjo tablatures for You Are My Sunshine
Traditional
Recomended level: Beginner
This bright and happy tune is a blast to play. As with almost any tune, whether you are a beginner or an experienced picker, you should start with the melody. Begin with the key of G. Try to say or sing the lyrics as you play. This helps with your memory and connecting your instinctual musicality to playing your instrument. After learning the melody in G learn it in C. Learning the same melody in two keys is great for your ear, and for your understanding of fretboard layout.
With each of the melody tabs there are enough licks in there to transform the arrangement into a lovely Scruggs or three fingerstyle version of this tune. It helps to see and know the basic melody that these licks spring from. You should sometimes try and accent those melody notes in the licks. This helps those notes to stand out and it can really bring a lot of life to the lick and the tune. Accenting a note means you just pick it a bit harder than the rest.
The Scruggs style arrangement is a bit more challenging, as are the licks. If you are up for it, it's a lot of fun and sounds great. Remember with any of these arrangements you can use the difficulty slider to tailor the arrangement to your current skill level. When you click or tap on a measure and the edit measure pop-up window appears, you can edit the difficulty of an individual measure or lick. Always use and become more familiar with the Tunefox tools to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your practice.
