A Minor Mandolin Tablature: One Song, Many Styles
Recomended level: Intermediate
Dig in here to learn the A minor scale. Practice it as a warmup whenever you are working on a tune that's in the key of A minor. Memorize the scale. Focus first on fretting the notes well to create clear notes and "buzz free" tone. Then work on connecting notes smoothly so that there is no gap in sound. Try out some scale patterns and workouts once you get more comfortable.
Another great exercise would be applying different rhythmic subdivisions to each run through of the scale. Learn about those in this learning path: Tremolo 101.
The Am scale has these notes: A B C D E F G. Those are all of the "natural" notes in the musical alphabet. That means there are no "flat" or "sharp" notes in this key. A minor is the relative minor of the key C major. Basically that means they share the same notes but have different start and end points. The notes of C major are: C D E F G A B. As you can see there are no flat or sharp notes here either.
