B Minor Pentatonic: 3rd Position Mandolin Tablature: One Song, Many Styles

Learn the B minor pentatonic scale on the mandolin in "3rd Position". This means your first finger is going to be an area where your third finger usually is - on the 5th or 6th fret. In this case your first finger will be on the 5th.
The B minor pentatonic scale leaves out the 2nd and 7th scale degrees of the full B minor scale. The B minor scale notes are: B C# D E F# G A. Therefore the B minor pentatonic notes are B D E F# A. There are just 5 notes, hence the name "pentatonic.
Follow the suggested fingerings in the mandolin tablatures. Start with the basic minor pentatonic scale. This one is played on your lower strings. Try to hold down the fretted notes as long as possible. This will build strength, coordination, and help you get a smoother and cleaner sound.
