Bum-Ditty City!

Putting it All Together

Ok, it's time. Remember to maintain correct posture in your fretting hand and strumming arm, and maintain that C claw shape in your strumming hand. Your bum-ditty instructions are thus: Strum on beat 1, and as you complete the strum - plant the thumb! Next, lift/prepare on beat 2. Then, strum on beat 3, plant the thumb as you complete the strum, load the string, and pop the 5th string on beat 4. After learning to play this while counting out loud, you can vocalize the pattern by saying "Bum, Dit-ty; Bum, Dit-ty, etc.".

You can do this! If at any time you begin to struggle. Slow it down, and try again. Remember to count out loud. Going back to the earlier lessons and getting a better hold on your timing accuracy when strumming or loading the string is totally cool, and a normal part of the process.

Next up, we take a look at some next steps for your banjo journey.
