Vampin' Fancy

The Best D Fill Money Can Buy

This lick is built from that simple D major pentatonic walk you just learned. It's foundational Scruggs Style vocabulary. You can hear it near the end of the A & B sections of Groundspeed and in a lot of other tunes he wrote or played on. We are playing right out of the chord shape. As we learn these different licks, be thinking about the chord shapes or scales that are being used. This one just adds a bit more rolling action, a pull-off and a little thumb rake, and it's all in that first measure.

This 2 measure pentatonic walk can work for in a lead, backup, or as a fill. Watch the video to hear it in action and get a breakdown. Practice with the Tunefox player below.
